6th Annual Florida Hog/Small Game Hunt

Come experience some small game hunting here in Florida with us! We pick a different piece of public land each year to get together and have ourselves a little small game competition. This year we will be back hunting Green Swamp West Tract WMA.

Legal to Hunt – Wild hog, gray squirrel, quail, rabbit, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, beaver, coyote, skunk, nutria, bobcat and otter.

We have such a great time when we do this. We get to know the new ones joining us, hang out with those that have been attending since the first one in 2020, hunt hard-core, and just enjoy the Florida Wilderness as a group. Always having the best time.

Camping opens Thursday, Feb 19, for those wanting to get to camp early. Hunting can be done that Friday-Sunday at multiple WMAs in the area. I will set up camp Thursday, hunt all day Friday, hunt all day Saturday and a half day Sunday. Usually, I tear camp down after lunch, so I have time to get home and unpack.

In 2004 we all got pigs and small game. Was one for the books! It rained the whole time, but we didn’t let that stop us. Check out the reviews left on what the members that attended thought about the experience. We have some great shared perspectives.

What you’ll need:

Hunting License- Non-resident- 10 day- $46.50 Wma Permit- $26.50
*No license needed if only hog hunting, but must have a WMA permit.
*Rifle, bow, or shotgun
*Food- We will cover Breakfast and Dinner for the weekend. I’ll also have plenty of water and coolers of ice for everyone. Be sure to bring stuff for lunches or any snacks you may want.
*Gear- Waterproof boots Rain Gear Weapon/ammo or arrows , Sleeping Gear for primitive or camper camping, Thermocell or Bug Spray Dry fit clothing

**MUST:

*When you kill something, it is yours to take care of. That includes getting it out of the woods, quartered, and on ice. We always have people to help but it is solely the individual’s responsibility. If you plan to give the hog to someone, be sure arrangements are made prior. We usually have a cart or two to lend out but you will need to be able to handle it.

*It is very hot, so being as fit as you can be helps alot. We usually walk alot and there temps are usually always high unless it rains. Being in shape and hydrated helps alot

I’ll also have wood for a fire, cooking supplies, processing equipment, and probably more stuff than we’ll need. If you’d like to attend, let me know asap. We will take last minute people, but I’d like a head count so I know how many spots to reserve.

There are 8 wmas within an hour of where we are camping if you’d like to try those also. Jumpers Creek, Citrus, Croom, Richloam, Green Swamp West, Richloam Biard, Upper Hillsborough, and Green Swamp.
