Want to chase a black bear in NM? Here is your chance. I am deer hunting Sept 1-24 in a unit known to hold good bear and cougars. I am looking to see if anyone would like to join me. My plan is to head out of Albuquerque on Friday, Sept 1. I will be returning to Albuquerque on Sept 10. It’s about a 3.5 hour drive to the area I plan on primitive camping.
I would pick you up at the Albuquerque airport if you chose to fly in and decided to stay until the 10th/11th. A rental vehicle would be needed if you can’t stay for those days. Of course, driving in is always an option.
New Mexico Non-resident requirements/fees:
NR License $65
Habitat Stamp $10
HMAV Stamp $4
OTC Bear License $260
OTC Cougar License (If so inclined, $290) (Would have to create a NM online account and pass the cougar identification quiz, then print the CIN card with your cougar authorization number). Bear and cougar licenses must be purchased a minimum of 48 hours prior to hunting.
This is a NO hound hunt and will be in the Gila National Forest on the W edge of NM. Some BLM land around as well. Elevation in the area will range from roughly 5400′ to just shy of 8000′. My tent is big enough to easily accommodate another cot or sleeping bag. My cooking skills are decent haha! If someone decides they want to fly in, I could potentially assist in the ticket (more details available on that via private conversation).
